The Native American Rehabilitation Association of the Northwest (NARA) recently completed a Smokefree Event Toolkit, a great resource for anyone planning or advocating for a smokefree powwow or other event. Is there is a smokefree event coming up in your community? Contact us to list it here.
A smokefree event means that all participants, organizers, volunteers, vendors and attendees will refrain from smoking cigarettes, cigars and other commercial tobacco products during the entire event and on all event grounds. Also, the healthiest and safest events are those that prohibit the use of commercial tobacco in all forms, including smokeless tobacco.
The Smokefree Event Toolkit will help you plan and host a successful smokefree powwow or other event. It provides the rationale behind smokefree events and tools to help you clearly communicate, promote and enforce a smokefree policy.
You can download the entire toolkit, or just specific sections. Throughout, you’ll find MS Word templates for certain fliers, signs and outreach materials, allowing you to download and customize them for your event.
